"aurora borealis from the air" by Edward Kraus This was the first time I saw the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights. From the ground you couldn't really see it because of the city lights and haze. You could see it if you looked hard but from a mile or so up in the air it was unmistakably obvious and totally amazing.
The picture doesn't do it justice at all. It moves and pulsates very fast like the sky is zooming towards you at mach 10. It can be quite disorientating if you stare at it while trying to fly an airplane without an autopilot.
